For the past few years, we have been using neurophysiological sensors to measure people’s psychological “engagement” through heart beats, skin conductance and body temperature. We've looked at how people experience the audiobook of game of thrones vs versus watch the same scene on HBO. We measured the audience member's heartbeats while they watched dream girls the musical on the west end, or the opera, a big screen movie, or a premier league match.

Through this work we’ve been developing a way to collect and analyse data so that - we hypothesise - we can measure the neurophysiology of a small number of people, and then predict how a very large number of people will be engaged by a performance, song or video. What better test of this hypothesis, we thought, than Eurovision 2022? And that’s how this project started.

This is the video that we are showing to participants after they complete our experiment. If you have already taken part, but didn't have time to watch this, or if you are just curious to learn about our work, then please watch. But if have signed up to take part in the experiment, but have not attended yet, then please do not watch this right now.
